We are delighted to inform you that the restaurant il Matriciano has been reviewed in the guide
“Rome, The Capital of Golf – Guide to the City of the Ryder Cup”.
«The trophy in the Eternal City is simply amazing. The history of Rome is immense […]. It leaves
me stunned. It’s all so breath-taking». In this way, Zach Johnson, captain of the USA team,
conveys his feelings in an unpublished interview with the Repubblica Guide before arriving in the
Eternal City for the Ryder Cup 2023, which is the most important golf tournament in the world.
“Rome, The Capital of Golf – Guide to the City of the Ryder Cup” is the new guide of the
“Repubblica” run by Giuseppe Cerasa. In its 360 pages, it leads the readers to the discovery of golf
in Rome and Lazio, to the secrets of the sports events and through the wonders of the capital,
thanks to tens of itineraries, thematic articles and its spotlight. The Ryder Cup, in fact, is the most
prestigious golf event in the world. It will be held in Rome from 25th September to 1st October and
will be played at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Guidonia. It will be one of the most

viewed sporting events of all time. Consider that the last time, when it was played in France in
2018, 600 million households in 160 countries tuned in to it on live tv. Accordingly, the Italian
champion Edoardo Molinari, celebrity endorser of the guide together with Johnson, explains: “This
is going to be an event that will change the history of golf in Italy in many ways and, as an Italian
player, it will be a dream come true to be able to be an integral part of it.”
An ad hoc section specially dedicated to the Ryder Cup, through eight articles, lays out the history,
the programme and the secrets of the events. This is also thanks to unpublished interviews with,
among others, Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, patron of the golf club Marco Simone, and Franco Chimenti,
president of Federgolf. The chapter dedicated to the golf courses reviews tens of locations in
Lazio, providing practical and technical information so as to make the best use of some of the most
suggestive greens in the world.
The section called “The Unmissables” describes stories, and specialties of gourmet restaurants
and those of the best pizzerias of the capital, a sure destination of those visitors interested in the
sporting tournament, while the city of Rome is explored neighbourhood by neighbourhood and
borough by borough. Each walk is further enriched with advice on where to eat and shop, with a
total of 249 restaurants and pizzerias and 62 eateries. The city thus reveals a twofold
complimentary aspect of Roman lifestyle, its entertainment network, its experiential tourism and
culture, with a total of 26 walks. The section “The Best of Rome” is a guide within a guide: ten
thematic articles on the museums of Rome, activities for families, street art, cinema locations, well-
being centres, amusement parks and shopping areas.
“This guide can help and promote the restart of a city that, every now and again, turns on its
engines and often realizes that it does have enough fuel to go up against world-class competitors.
A guide that also has a digital version in English so everyone can best enjoy the beauties of a city
that is always ready to cut a fine figure”, writes the director of the Guides of the Repubblica,
Giuseppe Cerasa, in his introduction to the volume. Whereas Giovanni Malagò, president of the
Italian National Olympic Committee, adds in his preface: “It will be […] a sign of trust and pride to
be expressed through impeccable organization, transforming the competition into an unforgettable
event due to its content and emotions”. The Councillor for the Region of Lazio, Giancarlo Righini
(Budget delegation, Economic Programming, Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Hunting and
Fishing, Parks and Forestry), in his preface, instead calls attention to the fact that the Ryder Cup
will also be a unique occasion to highlight all the enogastronomic products of the “Made in Lazio”
starting from the oil, fruit and vegetables. The Councillor for the Capital of Rome, Alessandro
Onorato (Sport delegation, Grand Events, Tourism and Fashion), adds in his preface: “This guide
was created to provide information, suggestions and original tips on the Eternal City and the
surrounding areas. It is an instrument for consultation but also a stimulus to learn about and
discover unusual stories and hidden corners”.
In this volume, there are exchanges between tens of top artisans, recommendations on charming
residences and various getaways together with advice on the best restaurants in the five provinces
of Lazio.
The Guide is now available at newsstands – in a special issue with La Repubblica at the cost of
€12,00 (not including the newspaper) – and it is also available on store digitale di Gedi alla sezione
“il mio abbonamento” (digital store Gedi in the section “My Subscription”).
It will soon be available for purchase in bookshops and on Amazon and Ibs.
